The Auxiliary provides the volunteer support base for service, fund–raising, and friend–raising for Kona Community Hospital. Membership in the Auxiliary is open to women and men eighteen years or older of all backgrounds and abilities, who are interested in providing supplementary services to patients and the community.
Volunteers help the staff in the hospital’s Administration and various hospital departments by providing patient services such as book cart or volunteering in the gift shop. Auxiliary volunteers assist in fundraising activities such as the Annual Benefit or helping with the weekly bake sale at the cafeteria. They also participate in many community activities such as Relay For Life representing the Auxiliary and Kona Community Hospital.
The Auxiliary also provides a number of nursing scholarships for qualified candidates and continuing education funds for KCH staff. In addition, the Auxiliary also may fund special requests from various hospital departments for unbudgeted necessities.
The KCH Auxiliary provides a communication link between the community and the Kona Community Hospital. Community inputs through the Auxiliary are welcomed and warmly received by the administration and staff. We welcome your interest and invite your active participation.

who we serve
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the patients, staff, and facilities of the Kona Community Hospital.
Located in Kealakekua, the Kona Community Hospital is the primary hospital and health care facility serving the leeward side of Hawaii Island. KCH has come a long way since it was founded in 1941. It began in a small wooden structure, which is now the location of St. Francis Medical Center/Kona Dialysis, and moved into its present building in 1975. In 1992 it expanded to add a Same Day Surgery facility, a Recovery Room, and the Intensive Care Unit. In 2001 KCH completed a renovation of the Obstetrics Unit, the Administrative Services Building, and the Behavioral Health Service Unit. In 2020 the hospital unveiled three state-of-the-art operating rooms with new technology designed to reduce the time patients spend in the operating room, thereby reducing risk of complication and infection. Today, Kona Community Hospital’s team includes over 450 highly skilled employees and 100 medical staff practitioners. KCH’s has 24-hour emergency services, and its Surgical Services Department performs over 2,200 surgical procedures annually. Areas of excellence include the Imaging Center, Cancer Treatment Center, Surgical Services, and Maternity Services.
In addition to providing volunteer services directly to Kona Community Hospital patients for decades, the Auxiliary has donated more than $100,000 for nursing scholarships and more than $50,000 to the hospital for unbudgeted necessities. These include renovations to the Surgical Services Department and Cardiology Laboratory as well as essential equipment for the Intensive Care Unity. Volunteers have provided an average of more than 6,000 hours of service each year.
